Research Request & Protocol Summary
TTI has made this protocol outline available as a means to invite you and to assist you in determining if you would be interested in participating in a nation wide normative effort for a newly developed set of measures of Executive Functioning. These measures referred to as the Target Tests of Executive Functioning-OV (Older Version) represent the upward extension of the child version of these measures published by TTI. These measures will help in an overall assessment of attention and working memory. The protocol is straightforward and the actual test administration is completed via computer in less than 30 minutes. Please find below the protocol outline, the demographic information needed, time constraints, and incentives offered for participation:
This will be a multi-site effort covering as wide a geographical net as possible. Primary IRB oversight will be established at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU). In our child version many sites, when available, elected to obtain IRB approval from their institution or organization as well. Most independent practice participants worked under the umbrella IRB of AASU.
TTI will provide reimbursement for all approved materials and fees associated with mailing, copying, developing materials needed as well as subject participation gifts. TTI at the completion of the data collection effort will provide a full use/unlimited use copy of the child and older version of the program once it is completed, with free updates for use at their specific site. Independent research efforts with the data collected can be granted when agreed upon prior to signing the participant agreement. In the past this represented posters, presented papers and dissertations. We will consider projects on a case-by-case basis. All data collected is forwarded to the Department of Psychology at Armstrong Atlantic State University for security and analysis and is over seen by Dr. Vann Scott of AASU. Dr. Scott and AASU do not have ownership of any TTI product or personal investment nor financial interest in TTI.
Subjects recruited will cover the following age ranges:
13-15 16-19 20-25 26-30 31-40
Each participating site will be asked to collect 5 cases in each age band with at least 3 subjects representing Typical non-ADHD participants and up to two participants diagnosed with ADHD. The break down should not include more than 2 ADHD subjects in each age band. Each subject participating will receive a $15.00 gift as a thanks for participation provided by TTI to you ahead of time.
Demographic data needed will consist of: Age, Gender, Ethnicity, SES and number of years of education.
Typical subjects (non-ADHD subjects) can come from any source as long as they do not carry and/or are not suspected to carry a diagnosis of ADHD. ADHD subjects can be recruited from private practice settings, community clinics or student counseling centers. The main requirement is that they have a formal diagnosis provided by a licensed psychologist, psychiatrist or neurologist. Minimum verification of the diagnostic assessment includes standardized rating scales and clinical interview. Medication must have been prescribed with report of acceptable improvement in symptoms. All ADHD subjects will be required to complete the Target Tests of Executive Functioning while off of their stimulant medication. Thus, subjects receiving Strattera, or with a dual diagnosis and receiving antidepressants and/or anxiolytics will be excluded from participation.
We will provide secure electronic data transfer options or pre-arranged postage and mailing materials. If needed consent and assent forms can also be provided. The only data recorded and reported will be the TTEF scoring sheet and the demographic data. No personal identifying information will be forwarded to AASU or reported in the final written manual or publications. .
